You might have heard of URBI, an easy to use programming interface for
robotics, which has been used so far mainly on the Aibo. I thought you
might be interested to know that we have released a version of URBI,
an easy to use programming interface for robotics, for Lego Mindstorms
NXT that is of a great interest for education. It is extremely simple
to handle but powerful at the same time. It will suit any robot user,
from the 8-year old kid to the academic researcher.
URBI is free, with open source interfaces, and you don't have to
change the original firmware to use it.
